A few minutes away is the medieval town of Varese Ligure, and even closer the tourist Sport Center of Tavarone offers swimming pools, tennis courts and bowls, an equipped 5,7km circuit for training and mountain-bike competition.

Maissana offers a variety of itineries for horse riding along ancient paths and mule tracks, fields and woods give you the possibility to ride for hours in a charming poetic surrounding.

The area among the mountains Alpe, Porcile and Verruca are classified by the EU as Interesting Community sites for theis botanical and faunistic value.

The Anello del Benessere (Keep-fit ring) is a serie of paths offering from 1 to 42 km for any age.



Along the Rio Lagorara valley, 10 minutes from Maissana, there is an archeological site considered one of the most interesting in Europe. The Red Jasper Quarry goes back to the Copper Age about 5,000 years ago.
You may book a demonstration of Red Jasper chipping and a session of experimental archeological practice.
From 1st of April to 30th of September every Saturday and Sunday there is an organized tour starting from Santa Maria to visit the quarry with a guide.
